FREE | Friday Art Talks Kira Godoroja-Prieckaerts and Surya Bajracharya on lithography

Join Kira Godoroja-Prieckaerts, Kenneth E Tyler Assistant Curator, in conversation with Surya Bajracharya, Kamberri/Canberra based artist and printmaker and framer at the National Gallery of Australia.

In this talk, Kira and Surya will focus on the practice of lithography, touching on its material qualities, technical processes and artistic benefits. The discussion will draw on examples from the exhibition Proofs and Processes: The Kenneth E Tyler Collection.

Proofs & Processes features works on paper made at Tyler Graphics, Mount Kisco, between 1986–2001, by six icons of Abstraction and Pop art. Artists Helen Frankenthaler, Roy Lichtenstein, Joan Mitchell, Robert Motherwell, James Rosenquist and Frank Stella worked with workshop director Kenneth Tyler and his team of skilled collaborators combining traditional, contemporary and unconventional printmaking methodologies. Together, they would realise ambitious projects that pushed American printmaking into a new realm of material innovation and excellence.

This exhibition draws from the National Gallery’s Kenneth E. Tyler Collection and associated archive to share insights into how complex works were made and demonstrates how artists tested and refined ideas through the proofing process.
